Have you ever thought about how much sleep affects you, the athletes you coach, your employees?!
What we do
Sleep to perform is the mantra behind our Swiss based consultancy.
Scientifically-grounded we strive to create projects to positively change behavior and unlock peak performance.
We are specialized in sleep, performance and wearable technology. Our efforts focus on helping athletes understand their own sleep & stress levels and deliver individual-specific tools to increase sleep quality and boost daytime mental and emotional resilience – and thereby increase performance.
We have an in depth knowledge about how technologies enabled in the right way, can provide valuable insights for increased prevention, behavioral change and performance.
For the last years 5 Ways West has worked closely with several professional sports clubs, national sports associations, universities, the military, pharmaceutical-, medical device- and drug distribution companies and wearable technology suppliers. We know what it takes to achieve a competitive advantage and positive results in these segments by focusing on sleep as a performance factor.
The connection between sleep and athletic performance has long been known to researchers. Because athletes go through such grueling physical and mental training regimes – it is crucial for them to get a good night’s rest.
Until recently, sleep was seen as a background variable: athletes were told to get enough sleep but focus on diet, exercise and practice. Now however, the role of sleep and its potential to impact athletic performance is being reassessed.
Sleep affects how we look, feel and perform on a daily basis, and can have a major impact on our overall quality of life, performance and health. Changed behavior around your sleep and daily rythm has been scientifically proven to improve fitness, reduce injuries and prevent overtraining.
To get the most out of our sleep, both quantity and quality are important. People tend to overestimate how much they sleep by 47 minutes—they’re not trying to lie, the brain just does not know!
If sleep is cut short, the body doesn’t have time to complete all of the phases needed for muscle repair, memory consolidation and release of hormones regulating growth and appetite. Then we wake up less prepared to concentrate, make decisions, or engage fully in our daily lives, sports and social activities.
